A united State nature reserve of federal significance “Leopardovy” was created in Primorye. This was done by combining two protected areas: the «Barsovy» reserve and the «Borisovskoe plateau».

23.10.2008 Enterprise rents forestry plot for nature conservation purposes
For the first time in Russia an enterprise has rented a forestry plot for nature conservation rather than commercial purposes. The Nerpinky fisheries cooperative rented for 25 years a forestry plot of 45,300 hectares in the Khasan district of the Primorye territory.

22.10.2008 Large area of taiga on fire in Primorye territory
The Primorye territory’s taiga is on fire at an area of 1,600 hectares. The regional forestry department reported that a total of eight fires have been registered in the Dalnegorsk, Chuguyevo, Pozharsk, Ternei, Yakovlevsky and Anuchinsky districts. Active fire fighting efforts are underway in these territories. Over 230 people have been involved in the effort.
