The pollock fishing season in the Sea of Okhotsk has entered the active phase Main winter fishing in the Sea of Okhotsk has entered its active phase. Virtually the entire extractive middle-tonnage and large-tonnage fleet of the Far Eastern fishery enterprises is now in the Okhotsk pollock fishing areas, reported the Ministry of Fisheries of Kamchatka territory.

In present in 86 vessels are occupied with the Pollock prey in three fishing sub-areas of the Sea of Okhotsk fishing (Kamchatsko-Kourilsky, West- Kamchatsky and North-Ohotomorskoy). 10 of them are vessels owned by fishing companies of Koryaksky district. Overall detachment of the Far Eastern Pollock miners counts 274 miners vessels. The total yield by February 11, 2008 makes over 130 thousand tons of pollock.

The fishermen of Kamchatka are to master the limits on the catch of 152 thousand 792 tons of pollock in the economic zone of the Sea of Okhotsk. 46 thousand 901 tons of them are to be caught in the North-Ohotomorskoy fishing subzone, in the western area of Kamchatka - 73 thousand and 551 ton and in the Kamchatsko-Kurile fishing subzone - 32 thousand 340 tons. Another 38 thousand 645 tons of Okhotsk pollock fishermen need to catch in the coastal zone.

The Ministry of Fisheries of Kamchatka territory noted that the total allowable catch of pollock in 2008, taking into account the increased productive generation of pollock in 2004-2005. Moreover, the increase in industrial quotas occurred mainly in Kamchatka waters. The total recommended TINRO pollock catch in the Far Eastern basin (Okhotsk and the Bering Sea) in 2008 compared with last year grew by 30% (200 thousand tons).

Scientists believe that in general fishing condition in the Bering and Okhotsk seas in 2008 will be normal, although it will be more affected by colder climatic conditions compared to the last year, the press office of Governor and the Government of the Kamchatka Territory informs.
