More than ten ships and submarines and also aircraft and marines of the Russian Pacific Fleet have participated in the strategic command and staff exercises Stability-2008.
Fleet forces participated in the exercises together with units of the Far East Military District from October 3 to 5, the fleet information and public relations service said.
One of the main operations was the landing of "the navy-coloured" -- Pacific marines -- at the training ground on the Klerk peninsula, the Primorsky territory, on October 4. They were to break the defence of "the red", the role of which have been played by units of the Far East Military District, the information service said.
Then, the exercises was continued at Kamchatka, where ships and submarines were set out for sea operations. Air Force and Air Defence fighters and anti-submarine aircraft supported the navy from the air.
The Stability-2008 exercises are held beginning September 22 to October 21 in accordance with the plan for the Russian Armed Forces' training. The exercises are conducted to master organisation of deployment of units and carry out tasks for the use of troops to stop armed conflicts and terrorist activities, to deal with natural and technological disasters, for strategic restraint and to ensure security of the United State of Russia and Belarus.
