The audience of users for this period has reached the amount of 31 million.

On April 7, 199, the domain in the .RU zone has been delegated in Russia. The audience of the Runet by now is huge: according to the data of 2008, about 28% çà the Russia’s population use the network. By the amount of domains the .RU sector is at 6th-7th place in the world ranking of national domains and the second millions’ domain in the .RU zone was registered in March 2009.

Runet beat all forecasts on the quantitative development and availability of information. According to experts, half of the Runet audience in autumn 2008 were more than 34 million people which is 30% of Russian population aged from 18 and older. Monthly Runet audience is 31.7 million (28% of the population). In 2008, the proportion of users connecting from home exceeded 70%, while the proportion of users going online from work stays at a stable level of 40% for six years already.
According to Yandex, about a third of "home" users (or approximately 20% of the audience) have broadband access to the Internet. The most common speed of an average of 21 major cities in Russia is approximately 410 kbit / s, in capital however about 7000 kbit / sec.
