The 24th session of the Russian-Japanese joint fishery commission was held in Tokyo, on March 17–24.
There were established the quotas for Japanese fishermen to catch in 2008: 3,005 tons of Salmons born in the Russian zone (2,705 tons of Pink salmon and 300 tons of Keta) within the 200-miles zone of Japan. Compared to 2007 the quota was reduced by 170 tons. Depending upon the real catching outputs Russia would receive the compensation for the salmons’ reproduction purposes in the amount of 371–436 million Yen, with materials and equipment for the Far East hatcheries.
