Stronger measures aimed at preventing avian influenza virus will be taken in the region. This was stated at the meeting of the committee of the Regional Administration on the prevention and elimination of emergency situations.

According to the regional veterinary service, the most important thing that needs to be done to protect the poultry from the virus is to prevent the contact with wild birds. To do so would free range of birds on peasant farmsteads will be banned. Poultry should also work in "closed type". Every six months the relevant authorities will be checked poultry farms’ work to implement the antiviral activities. Violators of veterinary rules will be punished by fines.



In addition, the control over the quality of disinfection of transport crossing the border will tighten in the ports of the region. Also, all products coming in the region will be carefully checked. This will prevent the transfer of the bird flu and other diseases on the territory of Primorye.

According to the experts this set of measures will put a reliable barrier to avian influenza.

Recently Primorye Territory for the first time in Russia was able to localize the hotbed of avian influenza and to prevent its spreading even beyond the single farmstead. Russian colleagues confirmed the effectiveness of the work of regional specialists. Dmitry Lvov the Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Director of the D.I. Ivanovskiy Institute of Virology sent a letter of thanks to the governor of Primorye Territory Sergey Darkin.
