Far East Russia
A sharp increase in the number of wildfires is fixed in Russia’s Far East. On Wednesday, 4,200 hectares of taiga and other areas were on fire in the region. However, by Thursday morning their number grew to 15,680 hectares, sources from the Far Eastern regional centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations told.
Over 11,300 hectares of woodland are engulfed in flames in Chukotka, and almost 3,500 hectares of taiga are burning in the Magadan and Amur regions. Twelve fires are fixed in the Khabarovsk region against four on Wednesday.
The government earmarked this year 34 million roubles for fight against wildfires in the Khabarovsk region. The region has already spent 65 million roubles. Owing to prompt measures by fire fighters, fires are kept away from local settlements.
