New general consul of USA in Vladivostok is ready to spend 3 difficult years of his life.
New general consul of USA in Vladivostok is ready to spend 3 difficult years of his life. Correspondent of RIA Deita.RU has informed that today future consul of USA in Vladivostok Tom Armbruster has given the first press-conference for Primorye’s journalists. It is necessary to mark that an official document that gives consul authorities to Armbruster hasn’t come yet, but this is just a formality. Soon all the documents will be signed. T. Armbruster has told that when he had learnt about his new posting he got very worried and started to prepare for 3 hardest years of his life. There’s not much information about Vladivostok even in the State Department of USA. Basically there were only stereotypes – very far, private, high criminal level and no trade with USA. Only one has been confirmed by now. The city is really far. As for the trade consul has already met a Californian businessman who transports dry fruits to Primorye. T. Armbruster considers that this individual case proves that Vladivostok and America can lead successful commerce. “Anti-American moods are strong in the world” – the consul said – “and I expected that I’ll face this problem in Vladivostok even harder. But to my surprise when I arrived I’ve seen how friendly people greet American ships and rap-group “Opus Akoben”. Cultural life in Vladivostok is very dynamic.” T. Armbruster has visited conference dedicated to the fight with organized crime that passed in one of the city universities. He noted that an open discussion of the problem is positive for Primorye. But he couldn’t compare the level of crime with any American city because he has spent not much time in Vladivostok. In conclusion he said that Far East is the place of big surprises and he is lucky to be here, Americans rarely go to distant countries.
