Russian hydrogenerating company RusHydro is planning to sign a memorandum on cooperation with Japan's Mitsui and J-Power on May 11-12 as part of a project to build wind plants on Russky Island off Vladivostok, acting RusHydro CEO Vasily
Zubakin said.
After studying the island's wind potential, the Japanese companies will begin acting as co-investors in the construction of a wind farm, financing up to 50% of total investment. The total cost of the project is estimated at 3 billion rubles.
Construction is to begin in 2020 and end in the first quarter of 2012. The wind plants will have capacity to produce up to 36 megawatts in the initial stages, but a bigger wind farm is to be built in the Primorye region at a later time. Zubakin said up to 200 megawatts of wind-driven power capacity could eventually be built in the region.
The wind farm will be built as part of preparations for the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vladivostok in 2012.
