The Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) has received a fifth container ship built at China's Jinling Shipyard.
The FESCO Anadyr vessel arrived late last week. The new ship has already started its work, FESCO's press service said.The Jinling shipyard will a make a total of six vessels for FESCO. The ship's capacity is 1,080 TEU (equivalent to 20-feet container). The vessel includes 220 refrigerators for transportation of cool cargo. The ship is equipped with a top-class automatic system allowing the machine unit to operate without a crew. The container ship is fitted with two 40-ton electrohydraulic cranes. The main and auxiliary engines are designed to work on heavy fuel. "Currently, FESCO Anadyr is on a voyage from Shanghai to Guayakil, and further through Panama Canal to Columbia (the Atlantic coast) and will work on the line between the Caribbean Islands and the continent," a company official said. The new vessel is the 25th one in FESCO's container fleet with a total capacity of 23,406 TEU. It was reported earlier that investments in the program to increase the FESCO fleet will total $270 million in 2007. A ortfolio of signed contracts for construction of the fleet includes eight vessels, including one container ship with a 1,080 TEU capacity,currently being built at Jinling, three container ships with a 1,730 TEU capacity and four with a 3,091 TEU capacity, which will be built at the Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa shipyard in Poland.
