18:45, 07.08.2007 | Amur Region

Customs officials confiscate 120 bear paws in Amur Region 120 bear paws with total weight of 190 kg found in “Kamaz” vehicle going from Russia to China were detained by Blagoveshensk custom-house officials.

RIA Deita.RU was informed that the paws were found in cache equipped in petrol tank. Each paw was accurately wrapped in polyethylene and scotch tape. It’s not hard to count that for the receipt of such amount of bear paws poachers killed not less than 30 bears. Approximate cost of arrested is 90 thousands roubles. That’s in Russia. On Asian black markets the price of such goods rises numerously. The damage brought to nature is hard to be estimated but it’s clear that extermination of such amount of bears will have pernicious effect on ecology balance; nature won’t recover from such stroke soon.
The driver is threatened with a penalty of 270 thousand roubles for “Illegal transportation of goods and vehicles from across the custom border of RF”. The goods are arrested and placed i8n check-room of Blagoveshensk customs.
