A protocol meeting of the head of Vladivostok Igor Pushkarev and the vice mayor of the Niigata city Wada Hiroo took place yesterday.

The issues of cultural and economic cooperation and the possibility of participation of Japanese companies in the construction of the APEC summit objects were discussed during the meeting. "Japan has a long experience in the conduction of major events of international level - noted Mr. Wada - and cities in which such activities are held get a great impetus for further development."

- Russian Government allocates sufficient funds for the development of Vladivostok. Our task is the creation of the favorable conditions for maximally open cooperation between our sister cities, as well as with other partners and investors - said Igor Pushkarev.

The 140th anniversary of Niigata’s opening for international trade will be celebrated in January 2009 and the municipality of the Japanese sister city is preparing a large exhibition "A City, called Uradzio" devoted to Vladivostok is timed to that date. Vice-Mayor Mr. WADA gave to the head of Vladivostok an official invitation to the opening ceremony of the exhibition on the behalf of the mayor of the Niigata city.

Agreement on the Establishment of ties between the cities of Vladivostok and Niigata was concluded on February 28, 1991. Since then various programs on students exchange were implemented on the permanent basis, activities in the field of sports and culture were conducted.
