Primorye Territory
This year, the region plans to establish a common State Nature Reserve of federal significance "Leopardovy". This will be done by combining the two conservation areas "Barsovy” and “Borisovskoe plateau."
According to the head of the management of natural resources of Primorye Territory Oleg Kaplenko, the merger will allow to form a unified specially protected natural territory for the Amur leopard which will provide secure protection this specie, save it for the Primorye territory and for the world. This is very important work, as the Amur leopards are the rarest specie of cats on the planet, making a total of about 40 animals left.
Combining of the reserves will be conducted in several stages. The work on the changing of the "Borisov Plateau" status has now begun. It is planned to make this reserve one of federal significance (it is regional now). The working group established at the initiative of the Governor of the region Sergei Darkin will deal with the registration of the relevant documents. Once both reserves receive a united status the question of their merger will be resolved.
Traditionally much attention is given to the nature protection. A complex of measures aimed at the preserving of the unique flora and fauna is conducted in reserves. The creation of two national parks - "The Call of the Tiger" and "The Udegeyskaya Legend” on the territory of the region last year became a significant event. Now rare plants, animals of the Far Eastern southern taiga are protected there.
The work of the international internet forum “Nature without borders” is aimed on the decision of the ecological problems. The forum will be held in Primorye Territory for the third time. Environmentalists, scientists, the business community of Russia and foreign countries will gather together once again to contribute to the conservation of the unique nature of Primorye.
