Far East Russia
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is certain that the main aim of the preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum’s summit that will be held in Vladivostok in 2012 is the development of the Russian Far East. “The aim is not only to surprise the foreign guests and create normal work conditions at the summit, but the development of Primorye, Vladivostok, so it is necessary to proceed from this,” the RF head of state said at a meeting with First Vice Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and governor of the Primorsky Territory Sergei Darkin.
Medvedev recalled that he had agreed on the current meeting with its participants during his recent visit to Khabarovsk and proposed to discuss “the preparation of the transport, engineering and other infrastructure and the APEC summit on the whole.”
In the view of the president, the preparation for the summit should demonstrate not only the Russian position in the APEC and development of international processes, but also the development of Vladivostok and Primorye. “We should use emerging opportunities in order to use new organisational structures and new money for the residents of Primorye,” Medvedev said.
