"Night of Museums" will be held in Vladivostok

As part of the annual worldwide events to celebrate International Museum Day, Vladivostok museums, art galleries and exhibition halls will feature displays for city residents and guests during the ‘Night of Museums’ to start Saturday evening and continue until early Sunday.

The event, which was first held in Vladivostok in 2006 and has enjoyed popularity among the city residents since then, will feature exhibitions by the city’s Arseniev Museum, Primorye’s Art gallery, as well as the city’s numerous art studios and exhibitions halls.



This year, the actions will be devoted to the 135th birthday of Vladivostok’s central street of Svetlanskaya and the 150th anniversary of the launching the frigate Svetlana which the street was named after, a statement from Primorye’s administration said.



The program, scheduled from 8 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday, will include photographs, paintings and displays of various items, theatrical, folk, ethnic and classical music performances, as well as screenings, various art installations and fashion shows. Artists, musicians and painters will participate in street performances.



The displays by the city’s widely popular Arseniev Museum will include an exhibition devoted to Primorye’s nature, a workshop on gem and precious stones, a cold steel installation and an ethnic performance featuring dances of Udege people.



Among the events participants are also the Sukhanov House Museum, Vladivostok’s French cultural center Alliance Francaise, the Arch and Portmay galleries, Artetazh museum.



The international project ‘Night of Museums’, initiated by France’s Ministry of Culture and Communication under supervision of the Council of Europe, is supported by about 2,000 museums in 40 European countries. Vladivostok joined the project two years ago, aiming to introduce the city residents to its cultural heritage, as well as promote and unite the city’s creative industries.
